Innovation and Technology

GSFP is committed to continually advancing the technology used in our operations. Our new Grade Sort Line relies on a system of optimization and control that uses the latest technology. This allows us to get the most out of our lumber and deliver the correct products to our customers. There also has been the implementation of an computerized maintenance tracking system and live production updates. With these new advances in our production technology, our employees are better connected to each other and to the production making a more efficient and safe workplace.

opportunities for growth

GSFP has a number of long-term employees as well as multi-generational employees. This is due to many opportunities to grow with the company and with the forest industry. We have a variety of employment options: mechanics, electricians, accountants, millwrights, safety personnel, foresters, graders, heavy equipment operators, and many more. We offer comprehensive training and advancement opportunities because we believe that as a company we grow together.

Gilbert Smith Forest Products has called Barriere home since 1955. Set along the shore of the North Thompson River, 20 minutes from the confluence of the North Thompson and South Thompson Rivers sits the quiet hamlet of Barriere. Take the Yellowhead Highway 5 and follow the North Thompson River some 66 km (41 mi) north of Kamloops to find a wide variety of outdoor activities and a supportive, small-town community. Badlands, forests, ranch landshiking trailslakes and rivers are yours to explore. Take in the Fall Fair and Rodeo or one of the events in the area. Barriere is a great little community to raise a family or explore the great outdoors. GSFP is happy to continue supporting the town’s economy by hiring local residents throughout the North Thompson Valley.
